This webinar highlighted how countries can strengthen primary health care systems to ensure comprehensive, quality and equitable care for those living with and affected by HIV, particularly key populations and other marginalized groups. COVID-19 has posed new challenges for key populations to accessing care, while also exposing longstanding weaknesses in health systems’ abilities to reach everyone in need.
New routine in primary care: Experiences from an Austrian PHC center during the COVID-19 crisis
At the European Forum for Primary Care (EFPC), we are pleased to join this collaboration on Primary Sources with Wonca, AfroPHC, and PHCPI to promote stories from the frontlines of PHC during the COVID-19 pandemic. EFPC was initiated in early 2005 to improve the health of the population in Europe by promoting strong primary care through generating data and evidence on primary care and by exchanging information between its members.

The gathering marked the 40th anniversary of the landmark Declaration of Alma-Ata, which enshrined health as a basic human right and paved the way for global recognition of PHC as a fundamental component of national health systems.

A Decade of Tracking Progress for Maternal, Newborn and Child Survival: The 2015 Report
Countdown to 2015 recently released its final 2015 Report, A Decade of Tracking Progress for Maternal, Newborn and Child Survival. The report summarizes results in each of the 75 Countdown countries, examines trends in maternal and child health, and turns a critical lens to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) framework and future accountability efforts. The report shows that although some health issues and some countries have achieved considerable progress, important gaps remain that must not be forgotten in the transition to the SDGs. When delivered properly, primary health care can meet many of the needs of women and children to accelerate progress toward the SDGs and close the gaps identified in the Countdown to 2015 report.
